Der Nachfolger von “Phoenix”, keine Frage,das Teil mußte damals, 1981 war es, sofort her!
Auch hier wieder, bis auf ein Stück (Empty Cages) , ausschließlich Eigenkompositionen.
Nun war es gar ein Doppelalbum.

Mit einem Satz : PROFIS AM WERK!
Dieses Werk wird oftmals als das ambionierteste Werk des Singer/Songwriters gesehen.
Man könnte es auch als Konzeptalbum bezeichnen, beschreibt es in einem Liederzyklus doch den Weg von der Wiege bis zur Bahre.
Die frühe „Unschuld“ des Lebens, die Reise, auf die wir uns begeben, Entscheidungen, die zu treffen sind, Begegnungen, Abschied, all’ das ist hier Thema in sensiblen Texten.
So erzählt uns Fogelberg auf eine einfache, aber gleichwohl kunstvolle Art kleine Geschichten.
Eingekleidet ist das wieder in ein Gebräu aus Soft-Pop, Countryanklängen, Bluegrass und Rockmusik
Daneben war dieses auch sein erfolgreichstes Album insofern , dass es mit „Same old lang syne“, „Hard to say“ und „Leader of the band“ gleich 3 hohe Charterfolge enthielt. „Run for the roses“ kam zudem noch in die Top 20!
Insofern war es wohl für mehrere Zielgruppen interessant, waren einerseits kommerziell zugängliche Stücke enthalten und andererseits war dieses ein tolles Album mit einer Botschaft und einer Ausrichtung auf gute Komposition, Arrangement und Orchestrierung.
Dieses war/ist für viele Fogelberg auf der Höhe seines Schaffens.
Für mich auch das persönliche Lieblingsalbum!
