Beatles - Anthology Vol. 1 bis Vol. 3
25 Jahre nach der Auflösung der Beatles öffnete EMI sein Füllhorn und veröffentlichte in Verbindung mit einer Mammut-Beatles-Dokumentationsserie zusammen mit dem Produzenten George Martin (und dem Grafiker Klaus Vormann) drei Doppel-CDs von bisher unveröffentlichten und seltene Beatles-Aufnahmen .
Rare Tonbandinterviews, verstaubte Quarry-Men-Dokumente, Decca-Bewerbungs-Tapes, Polydor-Material sowie Demos, Takes, Outtakes, Proben, Unpluggedaufnahmen, Live-Mitschnitte, alternative Versionen sowie Kuriositäten lassen diese archäologischen Ausgrabungen zu einer wertvollen Nahaufnahme des musikalischen Schaffens der Beatles werden.
In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Produzent und Arrangeur Jeff Lynne (ELO) spielten in Bearbeitung von John-Lennon-Demo-Tapes die damals drei verbliebenen Bandmitglieder zudem zwei „neue“ (!!!) Beatles-Songs ein, die den Vol.s 1 und 2. vorangestellt wurden.
Selten wurde die Arbeit von Musikern so liebevoll und umfassend dokumentiert. Die sechs CDs geben einen eindrucksvollen und teilweise intimen Einblick in das Schaffen dieser Ausnahmeband. Viele Songs erstrahlen in ihrer Erstehung gleich Rohdiamanten, die die bekannten Versionen in den oft Schatten stellen.
Höhepunkte dieser (zumindest einen Beatlesfan) glückseeligmachenden und offenbarenden Sammlung sind für mich die über ca. 8 ½- Minuten dokumentierte „Entstehungsgeschichte“ einer meiner Lieblingssongs „Strawberry Fields Forever“ vom Lennon-Demo über zwei Takes (einer mit Hawaii-Gitarre!) bis hin zu einem (leider so nicht veröffentlichten) Flöten-Drum-Solo sowie die tiefbeseelte Solo-Version von Harrison`s „While My Guitar Gently Weeps“.
